Our Story

Cyzner Institute was founded in 2003 by Dr. Lisa Cyzner after she recognized a need for a dedicated resource to support exceptional children and their families in the greater Charlotte community. From the beginning, her vision centered on the belief that early intervention, combined with individualized therapeutic support, can lay a strong foundation for a child’s long-term growth and success.

In 2025, Cyzner Institute expanded its continuum of services by partnering with its sister school, Kent Academy. Kent Academy was subsequently rebranded as Cyzner Academy, bringing it under the Cyzner umbrella and allowing the organization to provide an even broader range of support for students and families.

For more than two decades, Cyzner’s programs have provided highly individualized therapeutic education for children with developmental, neurodiverse, and mental health needs. Both programs are designed to support the whole child through an integrated approach that blends academics, behavioral support, and social-emotional development. Cyzner’s multidisciplinary teams partner closely with families and community providers to support each student’s long-term development and well-being.

Today, Cyzner continues to build on its founding mission: helping each child develop confidence, independence, and the skills needed to thrive.
